Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
EAP
Equine assisted psychotherapy is a ground-based behavior and mental health treatment that incorporates horses directly into the client's treatment.
There is a growing amount of research to support the use of this type of therapy in treating/aiding in: trauma/PTSD, emotion regulation, anxiety/stress, mood disorders, coping skills, and communication.
Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association
EAGALA
EAGALA is the model I practice at Village Services. It is entirely ground-based work (no riding involved or horse experience needed). This a team approach, anchored in ethical standards, involving a certification and ongoing training support for the Mental Heal Professional and the Equine Specialist.
How it Works
Sessions are viewed as a collaboration between the client, horses, Equine Specialist, and Mental Health Provider. Much like regular therapy, sessions involve prior consultation with the mental health professional and establishing goals for the treatment. Sessions can be done in individual or group format, depending on the need and goals.

-
Can I do this periodically as an addition to in-office therapy?
